76. Dickens, Charles.

Starting bid: $200.00

A Tale of Two Cities. Illustrated by H. K. Browne. 8vo, publisher’s blind-stamped olive green cloth lettered in gilt; top of spine frayed, scattered foxing.

London: Chapman and Hall, 1859 [400/600]

<i>FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with signature “b” present on the List of Plates leaf, and with misprint “affetcionately” on page 134, line 12, and page 213 incorrectly numbered 113. Smith I, 13.

According to Smith, the olive green binding is “Secondary” since all copies [Smith] has seen do not contain the signature on the list of plates or the misprinted page number.  This copy now throws that statement into question.
