Manuscript diary by Epaphras Hoyt. About 110 pages in brown ink. Manuscript map of the harbor and town of St. Johns. Folio, stiff marbled paper covers (detached); generally sound internally.

Deerfield and Maine, 1805 

Hoyt was Major General in the Massachusetts Militia and author of several books on military tactics. This diary details his travels along the boundary of Maine and New Brunswick, his meeting with Chief Francis Joseph [Neptune] at Moose Island, hiring Indian guides and canoes for travel, etc. The final 27 pages contain extracts from various reports of events during the American Revolution.
